The Databases
The foundation of the analysis provided through this website is the data bases which have been created, updated and maintained by DRAFTMETRICS. Untold hours have been spent on accumulating, checking and double checking the information in the data bases and I am highly confident in the accuracy of the data. Is the information 100% accurate? Probably not, but is darn close.
There are three separate but related data bases that drive the analyses:
- The Player Data Base, which houses information on all players drafted in the last 20 years
- The Starts Data Base, which lists the starters of all NFL games for the past 20 years and which feeds into the Player Data Base
- The Post-Season Honors Data Base, which lists the players who have been selected as All Pro and for the Pro Bowl
- Players only get credit for a Pro Bowl selection if they were an "original selection", whether or not they played in the game. Replacements do not get credit for being selected.
While just about all the information included in the data bases can be obtained elsewhere, DRAFTMETRICS has accumulated, cross-checked and otherwise verified the information into a usable source of information. Information sources used by DRAFTMETRICS are included in our Links.
DRAFTMETRICS does not publish its data bases. In my tiny corner of the world, it's kind of like the formula for Coca Cola and I guard it as zealously as an old guy can guard anything.
